Depois das grades: um reflexo da cultura prisional em indivíduos libertos / Life after prison: the reflex of prison culture in free individuals

RESUMO

A vida do recluso é marcada por agressões físicas e psicológicas. A submissão do preso às experiências carcerárias repercute na assimilação da cultura prisional por meio de um processo descrito como "prisonalização", "prisonização" ou institucionalização. Estudado por sociólogos, psicólogos, psiquiatras, filósofos e juristas, o fenômeno se revela a maneira como os reclusos são moldados pelo ambiente institucional mesmo após a sua libertação. É a partir da "prisionalização" que as tradições, valores, atitudes e costumes impostos pela população carcerária são apreendidos pelos internos, como uma forma natural de adaptação ou até mesmo de sobrevivência ao rígido sistema prisional. Este trabalho visa a analisar o impacto da cultura prisional em indivíduos libertos. Para isso, foi realizado um estudo bibliográfico a fim de perceber de que modo e em que intensidade os aspectos da cultura penitenciária interferem na socialização do indivíduo. As transformações variam e atingem o egresso em diferentes níveis, tais como no hábito de comer e agir, e nas estruturas de linguagem. Esse impacto pode ocorrer em dimensões muito maiores, que variam desde o aumento da agressividade à extrema passividade. Como uma das conseqüências, tem-se o alto índice de pessoas que reincidem no crime; segundo INALUD/Brasil equivale a 70%.

ABSTRACT

The inmate life is marked by physical and psychological aggression. The submission to prison implies the assimilation of the prisonal culture, in a process described as prisionalization orinstitutionalization. Studied by sociologists, psychiatrists, philosophersand jurists, the phenomenon describes the way the inmates are moldedby the institucional environment even after their release. Because ofprisionalization, traditions, values, attitudes and habits are imposed bythe jail population and they are apprehended by the interns as a naturalway of adaptation, or even of survival. This work aims to analyze theimpact of the prisional culture in former inmates. A bibliographical studywas carried through, in order to perceive how and to which extentsome aspects of the prisional culture interfere in the socialization of theindividual. The transformations vary and affect the convicted in different levels, such as the habit of eating and acting and in the language structures. This impact can occur along many dimensions – some examples are the increase of aggressiveness or extreme passivity. One of the consequences is the high index of people who fall back in crime; according to INALUD/Brasil this index is equivalent to 70%.
