RESUMO
Objetivo: estudar o conhecimento e prática do autoexame de mamas (AEM) em pacientes atendidas em um ambulatório geral. Método: foram entrevistadas 470 mulheres atendidasno Ambulatório Central da Universidade de Caxias do Sul por meio de questionário referente ao conhecimentoe prática do AEM, perante assinatura de termo de consentimento livre e esclarecido. Os dados foramcoletados no ano 2007, analisados através da estatística descritiva.Resultados: Uma porcentagem de 96,8(n=453) da amostra já ouviu falar sobre o auto-exame de mamas,mas apenas 85,9% referiu conhecer a técnica e 53,5 % (n=209) da amostra realiza o exame mensalmente.Conclusão: A maioria das pacientes refere conhecer o auto-exame. Os resultados aqui apresentados sugerema necessidade de se ampliar o acesso às informações sobre o auto-exame, explicitando melhor a técnicae as incentivando a realizar.
ABSTRACT
Objective: to study the practical and knowledge of the self-examination of breasts (SEB) in patients attendedat a general outpatient clinic. Method: 470 women taken care of in the CentralClinic of the University of Caxias of the South by means of referring questionnaire had been interviewed to the practical knowledge and of the SEB, before signature of term of free and clarified assent. The data had beencollected in year 2007, analyzed through the statistics descritiva.Results: A percentage of 96.8 (n=453) of the sample already had heard to speak on the self-examination of breasts, but only 85.9% had related to know the technique and 53.5 % (n=209) of the sample carry throughthe examination monthly. Conclusion: A majority of the patients relates to knowthe self-examination. The results presented here suggest the necessity of extending the access to the informationon the auto-examination, explaining better the technique and stimulating to carry through.
