Infección de la mucosa oral por coxsackie virus: enfermedad de boca mano pie / Coxsackie virus infection of the oral mucosa: hand, foot and mouth disease

RESUMEN

La enfermedad de manos, pies y boca es una infección enteroviral producida por el Coxsackie virus, generalmente serotipo A16, que afecta principalmente a niños, caracterizada por la aparición de vesículas en las zonas palmoplantares y en la mucosa oral. Se reporta el caso de una paciente mujer de 25 años de edad que presentaba erupciones vesiculares típicas en la piel y en boca, úlceras dolorosas en lengua, mucosa de carrillo y labio superior. Se discute el diagnóstico diferencial y se enfatiza la necesidad de establecer un diagnóstico temprano así como la importancia de educar al paciente y sus familiares para evitar el desarrollo de brotes epidémicos.

ABSTRACT

Hand, foot an mouth disease is an enterovirus infection, usually caused by Coxsackie virus A- 16 and affects mainly children. It is characterized by the appearance of vesicular eruptions in hands and feet together with vesicular and ulcerative stomatitis. A case of a 25-year-old female patient that presented painful ulcers in tongue, buccal mucosa and upper labial mucosa associated with typical skin vesicular lesions is reported. Differential diagnosis from other ulcerative oral lesions is discussed. It is emphasised the importance of early diagnosis and education of the patient and its family in order to avoid dissemination of the infection.
