Educación a madres adolescentes para el cuidado de los hijos / The education of adolescent mothers to take care of their children

RESUMEN

Se realizó una intervención educativa a las 253 madres adolescentes y sus hijos nacidos en el Hospital Docente Ginecoobstétrico de Guanabacoa durante el año 2000. Las necesidades de aprendizaje fueron identificadas en la totalidad de las madres, a través de grupos nominales y discusiones grupales en el 34,8 por ciento, aplicación de encuestas en el 40,7, y al 24,5 por ciento se le detectaron por entrevistas a profundidad. Con el diagnóstico de las necesidades se delimitaron los temas de intervención, y se diseñó el programa educativo a las madres adolescentes que se aplicó durante los 3 primeros años de vida a sus hijos. El contenido del programa se basó en los aspectos maternidad y paternidad responsable, cuidados generales del recién nacido, crecimiento, desarrollo y estimulación de habilidades, accidentes, sexualidad responsable e incorporación social. Entre los principales resultados de la investigación-acción se encuentra que el 90,9 por ciento de los niños estaban normopesos, el 98 por ciento presentó un examen físico neurológico normal, el test de desarrollo intelectual fue normal en el 97,6 por ciento, la morbilidad fue en descenso, la lactancia materna hasta los 3 meses se garantizó en el 90,9 por ciento de los casos, y más del 90 por ciento no presentó ingreso hospitalario en el período. Con la implementación del programa educativo se modificaron hábitos y estilos de vida, que influyeron en el mejor comportamiento del proceso salud-enfermedad en los hijos de madres adolescentes.

ABSTRACT

An educative intervention was carried out among 253 adolescent mothers and their children born in the Gynecoobstetric Teaching Hospital of Guanabacoa in 2000. All mothers showed learning needs that were identified in 34.8 percent of them by nominal groups and group discussions, in 40.7 percent by surveys and in 24.5 percent by in-depth interviews. On diagnosing the needs, the intervention topics were determined and an educative program for adolescent mothers was designed and applied during the first three years of life to their children. The content of the program was based on the following aspects responsible maternity and paternity, general care of the newborn, growth, development and stimulation of abilities, accidents, responsible sexuality and social incorporation. Among the main results of the research-action it was found that 90.9 percent of the children were normoweight, 98 percent presented a normal neurological physical examination. The test of intellectual development was also normal in 97.6 percent, morbidity was reduced and breast-feeding was guaranteed in 90.9 percent of the cases. More than 90 percent were not admitted in the hospital during this period. By implementing the educative program, there were modified habits and lifestyles that allowed a better behavior of the health-disease process in the children of adolescent mothers.
