RESUMO
JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS:
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES:
The aging of a human being is a natural biological process rather than a pathologic one, characterized by a series of morpho-physiological, biochemical and psychological changes that take place throughout the lives of human beings. This objective to study was presented questions to be connected with malnutrition in elderly and aspects of nutritional intervention. CONTENTS The malnutrition in aged is common, since, with the advanced age, the daily food intake reduces. Moreover, the food consumed is low-calorie, contributing to nutritional deficiency and malnutrition. The signs and symptoms of the aging process are easily mistaken with malnutrition, and so, interventions are many times inadequate and less potent than they could be. Nutrition, as a component of health, can only be used in the treatment of illnesses in the elderly population if the nutritional recommendations and also the capacity to efficiently evaluate the nutritional needs of the elderly are known. The oral supplementation is an efficient and viable strategy, being used to provide an appropriate nutritional surveillance, mainly when the elderly group presents malnutrition problems.CONCLUSION:
The nutritional intervention in malnutrition is necessary to be individual, to respect the nutritional needs of the elderly and the existent diseases. If necessary the oral supplementation guidance and food guide pyramid for elderly.
