RESUMO

O objetivo deste artigo é a compreensão da Síndrome do Esgotamento Profissional em professores de Educação Física da Rede Municipal de Ensino de Porto Alegre (RMEPOA). A revisão bibliográfica possibilitou unificar a expressão do fenômeno como .Síndrome do Esgotamento Profissional. (SEP). O problema central da investigação traduz-se na seguinte questão De que modo os professores de Educação Física da Rede Municipal de Ensino de Porto Alegre (RMEPOA) .abandonam. o trabalho docente, e que elementos são mais significativos nesse processo? Trata-se de uma pesquisa de caráter qualitativo e envolve 15 professores de Educação Física da Rede Municipal de Porto Alegre (RMEPOA) os quais, entre janeiro de 2000 a julho de 2002, entraram emlicença médica por motivos de estresse, ansiedade e depressão. Realizaram-se entrevistas semi-estruturadas, registros em um diário de campo e análise de documentos. O trabalho docente revelou-se para esses professores como uma prática profissional marcada por sentimentos negativos que comprometem a qualidade do trabalho, acumulando, com o passar do tempo, reações físicas e emocionais. Para a maioria dos professores colaboradores, essas vivências subjetivas de desgaste físico e emocional acumuladas no trabalho traduziram-se em sentimentos depressivos e em fadiga crônica, compondo um estado anímico denominado Síndrome do Esgotamento Profissional

Professional burnout syndrome in physical education teachers a study in Porto Alegre.s municipal school system The purpose of this manuscript is to comprehend the process of .abandonment. of the teaching career by physical education teachers of Porto Alegre.s Municipal School System (PAMSS). The bibliographic review allowed that the expression of that phenomenon was unified as .Professional Burnout Syndrome. (PBS). The central research problem is translated into the following question How do physical education teachers of Porto Alegre.s Municipal School System (PAMSS) .abandon. their teaching job, and which are the most significant elements in this process? The present research has a qualitative nature and comprehends 15 physical education teachers of PAMSS who, between January 2000 and July 2002, took a medical leave due to stress, anxiety, and depression. We conducted semistructured interviews,kept records on a field diary, and analyzed some documents. The teaching job has showed to these teachers as a professional practice marked by negative feelings that compromise the quality of their job, thus accumulating, as time goes by, physical and emotional reactions. For most collaborate teachers, these accumulated subjective experiences of physical and emotional burnout in their job were translated into feelings of depression and of chronic fatigue, composing an animic state denominated Professional Burnout Syndrome
