Determinantes do crescimento fetal e sua repercussão sobre o peso ao nascer / Fetal growth determinants and their repercussion on birth weight

RESUMO

Alterações na curva de crescimento fetal, seja a restrição de crescimento ou a macrossomia, vêm despertando o interesse da comunidade científica. Vários estudos estão sendo realizados com o objetivo de demonstrar a importância das intercorrências gestacionais e seus efeitos sobre a saúde do feto que, por sua vez, poderão determinar a saúde do indivíduo pelo resto da vida. O conhecimento dessas intercorrências e do seu impacto sobre o crescimento fetal é de extrema importância para a saúde púlica, já que algumas podem ser prevenidas ou controladas. O objetivo desta revisão é apresentar uma atualização dos fatores determinantes do crescimento fetal e sua repercussão no peso ao nascer e na saúde do indivíduo tanto em curto como em longo prazo. Medline, Lilacs/SciELO e a Biblioteca Cochrane foram consultadas usando-se os termos "crescimento fetal", "peso ao nascer", "restrição de crescimento intra-uterino", "macrossomia".

ABSTRACT

Alterations in the growth curve, either growth restriction or macrosomia, has increasingly arisen the scientific community interest. Many studies have been developed to demonstrate the importance of adverse prenatal occurrences and their effects on the fetus health that in turn, will determine the individual's health for the whole life. The knowledge of these occurrences and their impact on the fetal growth are extremely important for the public health, since some of them could be prevented or controlled. The aim of this paper is to update the literature concerning the fetal growth determinants and their impact on the birth weight and the individual's health during life. Medline, Lilacs/SciELO and the Cochrane Library, were reviewed under the terms "fetal growth", "birth weight", "intrauterine growth restriction", "macrosomia".
