ABSTRACT
The author considers Patrick Süskind's main character of the novel, "Perfume Story of a Murderer", as a paradigmatic case to exemplify Meltzer's ideas about the psychopathology of perversions. This article, aims to a change from the original concept of fetishism, tribute to the phallic-centered theory of Freud, using the ideas of Bion, of emotional experience and "common sense", and the studies of Tustin and Meltzer about autism. In this case, the feared or what is denied would be the emotional experience. In the character, the sense of smell, articulated like a defence, is used as a special type of split, "sensorial dismantling", as an active mechanism mobilized by the perverse aspect of personality. The motivation of this process, that considers defensive partitions of the psychic apparatus that fragments and disarticulates aspects of the object and the bond, is to give channel to the envious and voracious aspects, without exposing himself to the pain and uncertainty of the emotional experience.
