Introduction:
Punica granatum L is a species that is known in Cuba as grenade, its fruit is rich in C vitamic, antocyanins, thyamine and riboflavine; it also has other chemical compounds that give them important biological properties for the treatment of tumoral diseases and is also used in the traditional herb medicine because of its antiparasitic, antinflammatory and antiflu properties. Objetives to identify the chemical components of extracts from frozen ripe fruits of Punica granatum L.Methods:
the total ripe fruit frozen at -20 oC of grenade was the vegetal material from which the different extracts were obtained and standardized from several extracts from 50percent hydroalcohol extraction. The physical and chemical parameters of quality control were estimated and the phytocemical screening was conducted. Results:
in the quality control applied to the vegetal material; the purity of the drug was reached. In the standardization of different extracts, their physical properties were similar and in the phytochemical screening, the hydroalcohol extract presented alkaloids that were absent in the others; cardiotonic glycosides were undetected but flavonoids and tannins were present. Conclusions:
water and lyophilized extracts had flavonoids, tannins, antocyanidins, carbohydrates, coumarins, saponins, mucilages, aminoacids, quinones, as well as astringent principles but did not have cardiotonic glycosides and alkaloids that may increase toxic potential and unwanted effects.
