ABSTRACT
The purpose of the present study was to validate the leadership version of the Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire (ASQ-L) in the Brazilian Portuguese Language, developed by Riemerand Chelladurai (1998). The research used a sample of 215 high-level volleyball athletes, 78 being male and the remaining 137, female. The ASQ-L measures athletes satisfaction level towards their coaches leadership behaviour. It is made out of 14 items divided into four different dimensions training-instruction, personal treatment, individual performance and team performance. The three methods used in the ASQ validation process were back translation, internal consistency reliability via the Cronbach alpha coefficients and confirmatory factor analysis. According to literature, the analysis of the general reliability of the ASQ and its dimensions generated adequate results, since all Cronbach alpha levels exceeded the value of 0.70. The factor validity indicatives, obtained through confirmatory factorial analysis, were acceptable for all absolute, incremental and parsimony indices, except for the AGFI. Nevertheless, the AGFI value was very close to that desired. Therefore, this study point to valid and reliable results in the measuring of athletes levelof satisfaction towards their coaches leadership behaviour.
