Pleomorphic adenoma or benign mixed tumor is the most common benign tumor of the salivary glands. It is composed by aproliferation of myoepithelial cells and a vast array of epithelial and mesenchymal elements surrounded by a fibrous capsule. Purpose:
the aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between the number of cell and the age of the patient with pleomorphic adenoma. Materials andMethods:
one hundred and fifty selected histo pathologic slides stained with hematoxylineosin were selected. In three photomicrographic at 40 X magnification of each case the mean number of cells were obtained. Results:
the mean number of cells decreased with the age without difference in gender but with a slight tendency in women. This finding could be of importance in the relapse of the pleomorphic adenoma.
