Bilingüismo: hallazgos y repercusiones metodológicas en neurociencias / Bilingualism: findings and methodological repercussions in neurosciences

RESUMEN

El estudio de los sustratos neurobiológicos del bilingüismo emerge de los primeros datos sobre pacientes afásicos bilingües y que presentaban una recuperación dispar de sus múltiples idiomas (Pitres, 1895). Muchos anos mas tarde, la hipótesis de los sustratos distintos de uno y otro lenguaje en el cerebro bilingüe, seguía siendo la mejor explicación frente a los distintos patrones de recuperación (Paradis, 1989). Sin embargo, con el avance en los métodos de neuroimagen y la precisión en la formulación metodológica, la evidencia comienza a mostrar convergencia hacia la noción de los sustratos compartidos (Hull y Vaid, 2007). El objetivo de este artículo es revisar evidencia reciente en estudios sobre la neurociencia del bilingüismo, y contrastar resultados y generar discusión sobre el tema. Además se pretende resaltar la importancia de las metodologías y procedimientos a la hora de interpretar los resultados de las investigaciones en neurociencias.

ABSTRACT

The research of the neurobiological substrates of bilingualism emerges from the first data of aphasics bilingual patients, who presented a disparate recovery of their multiples languages (Pitres, 1895). Many years later, the hypothesis of the distinct substrates of one and another languages in the bilingual brain, stilled being the best explanation fronting the distinct patterns of recovery (Paradis, 1989). Nevertheless, with the advances in neuroimage methods and the precision on the methodological formulation, the evidence begins to show convergence forward to the notion of shared substrates (Hull and Vaid, 2007). The aim of this article is to review recent research’s evidence in neuroscience of bilingualism, contrast results and generate discussion about the theme. In addition, it intents to stand out the importance of the methodology and procedures at the time to interpret the results of the investigations in neurosciences.
