Perfil das exodontias realizadas na Clínica de Cirurgia I do Curso de Odontologia da Universidade Federal da Paraíba / Profile of performed procedures of extractions at the Clinic of Surgery I for the Dentistry University of Paraíba

RESUMO

OBJETIVO: avaliar o perfil das exodontias realizadas na Clínica de Cirurgia I do Curso de Odontologia da Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB), no período de fevereiro de 2006 a setembro de 2007. METODOLOGIA: foram analisadas 143 fichas de pacientes, totalizando 233 dentes permanentes extraídos, sendo submetidos à análise estatística descritiva os seguintes dados: gênero, idade, história médica, dentes envolvidos, grupos de dentes mais afetados, arcada dentária mais comprometida e a causa que levou à indicação de extração. RESULTADOS: os resultados do estudo foram o seguinte: houve uma maior procura pelo sexo feminino (58%); a idade mais frequente variou de 41 aos 50 anos (24%); a maioria dos pacientes não possuía histórico de doenças sistêmicas (61%), porém havia um grupo de hipertensos (23%); os dentes mais envolvidos foram os molares (44%); a cárie foi a causa predominante das exodontias (72%), seguida pela doença periodontal (18%). CONCLUSÃO: portanto, como perfil dos procedimentos tem-se que grande parte dos pacientes foi do sexo feminino, com idade entre 31 a 40 anos, tendo a hipertensão como a doença sistêmica mais frequente. Os dentes mais acometidos foram os molares e, no geral, à maxila, havia mais dentes para extração, sendo a cárie a principal causa das exodontias em todos os grupos de dentes.

ABSTRACT

AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate the profile of extractions performed at the Surgery I Clinic in the Dentistry Course of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) between February 2006 and September 2007. MATERIAL AND METHODS: One hundred and forty-three patient record cards were analyzed 143, with a total of 233 teeth extracted, with the following information being submitted to descriptive statistical analysis: gender, age, medical history, teeth involved, most affected teeth group, most compromised dental arches and the cause that led to the indication of extraction. RESULTS: The results of the study were as follows: a majority of cases (58%) involved females and the largest age group was 41 to 50 years (24%). Most of the patients had no history of systemic disease (61%), but there was a group of hypertensives (23%); the most affected teeth were the molars (44%); caries was the predominant cause of the extractions (72%), followed by periodontal disease (18%). CONCLUSION: The profile of the procedures revealed that most of the patients were female, aged between 31 and 40 years, with hypertension as the most frequent systemic disease. The most affected teeth were the molars, and in general the jaw had more teeth to be extracted, caries being the main cause in all the tooth groups.
