Avaliação do apoio social e sua relação com variáveis sociodemográficas de pacientes com insuficiência cardíaca em seguimento ambulatorial / Evaluation of the social support and its relationship with socialdemografic variables in heart failure patients under clinical follow-up

RESUMO

O presente estudo é de caráter descritivo e teve como objetivos medir o apoio social a pacientes cominsuficiência cardíaca em seguimento ambulatorial e verificar as relações existentes entre o apoio social e asvariáveis sociodemográficas. O apoio social foi medido utilizando-se um instrumento específico que avalia doistipos de apoio social, o emocional e o instrumental, no que se refere à freqüência e à satisfação percebida. Asrespostas variam em um intervalo possível de 1 a 5, no qual quanto maior o valor, maior a freqüência esatisfação com cada tipo de apoio avaliado. Os dados foram coletados no período de fevereiro a outubro de2005. Participaram do estudo 85 pacientes, dos quais 55 eram homens casados, com idade média de 57+14,4anos (intervalo de 24,7 e 85,6). Constataram-se médias de 3,8+0,7 (intervalo de 2 a 5) para a dimensãoemocional e de 3,9+0,7 (intervalo de 1,7 a 5) para a dimensão instrumental, ambas indicando elevada satisfaçãoe disponibilidade quanto ao apoio recebido. Houve relação apenas entre apoio social, domínio emocional e anosde escolaridade. Não foram comprovadas relações entre apoio social e idade, sexo e situação conjugal entre osparticipantes, contrariando os achados de outros estudos.

ABSTRACT

This descriptive study aimed to measure social support among heart failure patients under clinical follow-up andto check for existing relations between social support and demographic variables. A specific instrument was usedto evaluate two types of social support, i.e. emotional and instrumental, in terms of perceived frequency andsatisfaction. Answers range in a possible interval from 1 to 5 in which, the higher the score, the higher thefrequency and satisfaction with each evaluated support type. Data were collected between February and October2005. Study participants were 85 patients, 55 of whom were men; 55 participants were married, and average agewas 57+14.4 years (interval from 24.7 to 85.6). We found an average score of 3.8+0.7 (interval from 2 to 5) for theemotional dimension and 3.9+0.7 (interval from 1.7 to 5) for the instrumental dimension. This indicates high levelsof availability and satisfaction about the received support. We found a correlation between the emotional domainof social support and years of education, but did not find any evidence of relations between social support andage, gender and marital situation among the participants, which is inconsistent with findings from other studies
