Estado nutricional en adultos mayores / Nutritional state in older adults

RESUMEN

Fundamento En Cuba se incrementan los servicios de alimentación social a las personas de la tercera edad y sobre todos los que no tienen amparo familiar para mejorar su estado nutricional y de la calidad de vida. Objetivo: Valorar el estado nutricional en los adultos mayores pertenecientes al consultorio número 32 en el área de salud norte del municipio Morón, Ciego de Ávila. Método: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal desde el 1ro de enero al 30 de junio del año 2007.El universo estuvo constituido por todos los adultos mayores dispensarizados en dicho consultorio (266). Se extrajo una muestra representativa de 80 adultos mayores, se le aplicó una encuesta diseñada según los objetivos propuestos y que contó con las siguientes variables grupos de edades, sexo, pérdida de peso en el último mes, y complementarios. Resultados: De los 80 abuelos que constituían la muestra, 52 pertenecían al sexo femenino (65 por ciento), 28 al masculino (35 por ciento), aproximadamente la mitad se encontraban normopeso 41(51,25) y cuatro perdieron de peso en el último mes. La glucemia fue normal en 51, la hemoglobina normal en 75 y el colesterol lo fue en 74(92,5 por ciento). Conclusiones: Predominó el sexo femenino y aproximadamente la mitad se encontraban sobrepeso u obeso.

ABSTRACT

Background: In Cuba the services of social feeding are increased to the third age people and especially the ones that do not have family protection to improve their nutritional state and quality of life. Objective: To value the nutritional state in older adults belonging to the doctor's office number 32 in the north health area of Morón municipality, Ciego de Ávila. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study from January 1st to June 30, 2007 was carried out. The universe was constituted by all the older adults classified in the said doctor's office (266). A representative sample of 80 older adults was extracted, a survey designed according to the objectives proposed was applied to them and that included the following variables age groups, sex, loss of weight in the last month, and complementaries. Results: Of the 80 grandfathers that constituted the sample, 52 belonged to the female sex (65 percent), 28 to the male one (35 percent), approximately the half were found normoweight 41(51,25) and four lost weight in the last month. The glycemia was normal in 51, the normal hemoglobin in 75 and the cholesterol was it in 74(92,5 percent). Conclusions: The female sex predominated and approximately the half were found overweight or obese.
