RESUMEN
Se efectuó un estudio descriptivo, transversal y retrospectivo de 396 pacientes con úlcera gastroduodenal (39,6 por ciento), cuya afección fue diagnosticada en las primeras 1 000 endoscopias realizadas durante el trienio 2004 - 2006 en el Policlínico Docente José Martí de Santiago de Cuba. Las personas más afectadas por esa enfermedad tenían entre 51 a 60 años y eran fundamentalmente del sexo masculino. La epigastralgia resultó ser la manifestación clínica más común; la ingestión de café, el hábito tóxico preponderante; y la úlcera en duodeno, la localización más frecuente en la casuística.
ABSTRACT
A descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out in 396 patients with gastroduodenal ulcer (39,6 percent), whose disease was diagnosed in the first 1 000 endoscopies performed during the triennium 2004 - 2006 at the José Martí Teaching Polyclinic of Santiago de Cuba. People most affected by that disease were between 51 and 60 years of age and male sex mainly prevailed. Epigastralgia was the most common clinical manifestation; coffee consumption, the predominant toxic habit; and duodenal ulcer, the most frequent site in the case material.
