ABSTRACT
Introduction. The diagnosis of migraine depends on the clinical characteristics because there is not a biological marker of the disease. Objectives. To determine the clinical characteristics of the migraine and to compare the differences of the characteristics among the migraine with and without aura and the chronic migraine in a Colombian university population, we made a cross sectional study by means of a structured interview of migraine. Results. Features found in this population are according to clinical criteria recommended by IHS. The only significant different factors were the kind of pain and frequency in patients with chronic migraine and the presence of associated symptoms different from those included in the IHS classification. Conclusions. We did not find clinical differences between the migraine with and without aura except for the aura. Apart from the higher frequency of migraine attacks, the chronic migraine associates to throbbing, dull and stabbing pain.
