Saúde bucal da gestante atendida pelo SUS: práticas e representações de profissionais e pacientes / Oral health of pregnant woman attended by SUS: practices and representations of professionals and patients

RESUMO

O trabalho apresenta resultados de pesquisa realizada em 2006, em unidades de saúde do município do Rio de Janeiro, que teve como objeto de estudo as práticas e representações de médicos pré-natalistas, dentistas e gestantes sobre a atenção odontológica no período gravídico. O objetivo foi compreender como estas poderiam interferir na oferta, procura e adesão a esse cuidado. Com enfoque qualitativo, a pesquisa consistiu de um estudo de relatos coletados através de 49 entrevistas individuais semiestruturadas, que foram interpretados com a técnica de análise de conteúdo. Verificamos que os cuidados com a saúde bucal ainda não fazem parte da rotina da atenção pré-natal e da noção de direitos da gestante. Concluímos que existe uma cultura que não valoriza nem estimula a atenção odontológica durante a gravidez e, para ela, contribuem visões, crenças, atitudes e condutas de médicos, dentistas, gestantes e suas redes sociais. Representações negativas sobre o tratamento odontológico nesse período determinam uma oferta restrita por parte dos profissionais e uma baixa procura e adesão das mulheres.

ABSTRACT

The study presents the results of a research performed in 2006, at health units in Rio de Janeiro; practices and representations of physicians, dentists and patients on dental treatment during pregnancy were taken as object of study. The objetive was to understand how the practices and representations could interfere in the demand, supply and adherence to the dental services. Utilizing the content analysis technique, we conducted a qualitative study based on 49 semistructured individual interviews. It was observed that the routine of pregnant women does not include the dental care as part of their rights. We note the existence of a culture in which the dental care during pregnancy is not valued nor stimulated. Beliefs, practices, attitudes and behaviors of physicians, dentists, pregnant women and their social network also contribute to this result. Negative representations on dental treatment during this period determine a restricted supply from the health professionals, as well as the low adherence and low demand from women.
