ABSTRACT
This study is aimed at evaluating the construct validity of the Individual Lifestyle Profi le (PEVI) scale. Physical Education teachers (n=1606) working in Public Schools of the Southern region of Brazil participated in the study. Statistical analysis included factor analyses using varimax rotation, in order to determine the necessary number of factors of the instrument used the Kaiser criterion. Cronbachïs Alpha estimates of internal consistency were calculated, and Spearmans correlation was used to evaluate the degree of association (overlapping) among the individual items. Analyses were performed using the Statistica 7.0 and SPSS 11.0 softwares, with 5% level of significance. Factor analyses, when considering five factors, suggested the same distribution of items in the original proposal of this scale, whereas 58.65% of the total variance was explained by the instrument dimensions. In relation to its internal reliability, a Cronbachs Alpha coefficient of 0.78 was calculated, which is considered reasonable for the general evaluation of the instrument. Overlapping of items (Spearmans coefficients) was moderate for only four items (r between 0.45 and 0.57). Evidence found has confi rmed that the instrument presents adequate internal reliability, the items are associated to the respective dimensions, and it approaches different indicators of the studied dimensions. It was concluded that the Individual Lifestyle Scale (PEVI) presents internal consistency and construct validity to evaluate the lifestyle of individuals with similar characteristics to the participants in this study.
