RESUMEN

La Microscopía Electrónica en la Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) nace en esta casa de estudios superiores en la Facultad de Ciencias en el año 1963, aproximadamente dos décadas después de la instauración de la Escuela de Biología (1946), gracias al empeño del Doctor Mitsuo Ogura, quién gestó la creación de lo que hoy en día se conoce como Centro de Microscopía de la Facultad de Ciencias. A pesar del tiempo de vida que tiene esta Institución, su historia y aportes a la sociedad del conocimiento no se conocen suficientemente. Por ello, consideramos que el dilucidar algunos aspectos de su historia podría constituir un aporte al conocimiento de la investigación moderna en Venezuela. Desde la instalación del primer Microscopio Electrónico en la UCV (1963) hasta la fecha (2004), la microscopía electrónica en la Facultad de Ciencias ha recorrido por varias etapas que van desde un enfoque inicial hacia las Ciencias Biológicas pasando por los estudios multidisciplinarios (biología, química y física), hasta alcanzar un nivel interdisciplinario (biomedicina, bioingeniería y materiales). Ello nos ha permitido agrupar la evolución y el desarrollo del Centro de Microscopía Electrónica “Dr. Mitsuo Ogura” CME, en cuatro etapas, éstas se han elaborado considerando tanto su equipamiento instrumental como su visión y misión, adicionalmente a la producción de saberes que desde el (CME) de la Facultad de Ciencias, se ha obtenido.

ABSTRACT

Electron Microscopy in the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) was born in 1963, approximately two decadesafter the creation of the School of Biology (1946) of the mentioned superior studies institution. Its gestation and creation is due to Doctor Mitsuo Ogura, but since then its history and contributions to the society of the knowledge is not sufficiently known. For this reason, we considered opportune to contribute with one first historical approach to electron microscopy in the UCV, particularly in the Faculty of Sciences of the UCV. From the installation of the first electron microscope in 1963 until 2004, electron microscopy in the Faculty of Sciences has crossed by several events that we have grouped in four stages. This division has been elaborated considering not only its instrumental equipment but also its vision and mission, additionally to the production of knowledge that from the Center of Electron Microscopy of the Faculty of Sciences has been obtained. The lines of investigation have expanded from disciplinary approaches (biology, chemistry, physics) passing through the multidisciplinarity (biology, physics, chemistry, medicine, geology, engineering) until the interdisciplinarity (biophysics, geochemistry, biochemistry, biomedicine, bioengineering, etc). These disciplinary, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches have significantly contributed to increase the intellectualproduction of two field in Venezuela.
