Objective:
To explore risk factors related to osteoarthritis on carriers of the disease living in Presidente Prudente area. Methods:
84 women carriers of the disease were analyzed based on personal data and information obtained through the Standardized Nordic Questionnaires for the Analysis of Musculoskeletal Symptoms. Variables were analyzed by Goodman test to contrast between and within bi or multinomial populations or Odds Ratio. Results:
The disease was mostly foundon knee, lumbar, neck and hands area, respectively. When excused from labor activities, it was observed more frequently in the lumbar region, knee and hip. The complaints in individuals with standard Body Mass Index (BMI) were mainly focused on the cervical-thoracic and upper members and on overweight/obese individuals focused lower members. There was a higher prevalence of the disease in individuals with normal BMI, elementary school complete, discrete tendency for individuals who practice moderate and heavy activities; sedentary individuals before the diagnosis and now tending to be active today and with family history of the disease. Linking risk factors with excuse from work, there was no statistical significance. Conclusion:
It was not identified risk factors to the OA from the sample analyzed; however, it was observed a profile for it, highlighting school level until elementary graduation, sedentary lifestyle and family history of the disease.
