Conhecimento do aleitamento materno em puérperas no Hospital Geral: Caxias do Sul / Knowledge of breastfeeding mothers in the Hospital Geral: Caxias do Sul

RESUMO

Objetivo: Avaliar o conhecimento das puérperas em relação à amamentação e à importância do aleitamento materno. Método: Estudo transversal quantitativo. Os dados das puérperas internadas no Hospital Geral de Caxias do Sul, RS, foram coletados por meio de questionário estruturado contendo questões objetivas sobre aspectos práticos e teóricos da amamentação, no período de fevereiro e março de 2009. Resultados: Foram entrevistadas 54 puérperas, com idade entre 16 e 45 anos. De uma forma geral, 71,7% das mães tinham pelo menos cinco ou mais visitas prénatais nas unidades básicas de saúde do próprio município e 100% relataram não terem recebido orientação sobre aleitamento durante esse período. Entretanto, com relação à dificuldade de amamentar, 68,5% não apresentaram essa característica e, quanto ao manejo de retirar (ou ordenhar) o leite, 68,5% tiraram corretamente, mostrando significância. Quando abordado o oferecimento de chá ou água, 66,7% responderam não e 33,3% que sim, mostrando diferença estatística. Considerando o tempo recomendado de amamentar, 50,0% informaram 6 meses e a menor proporção foi observada para o tempo de “até 2 anos”, com resultados estatisticamente significativos. Conclusão: Novas estratégias de incentivo ao aleitamento materno, como um trabalho de conscientização e esclarecimento junto às mães, podem ser implementadas para aumentar as taxas do aleitamento, podendo, assim, ser realizado de forma competente e persistente...

ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the knowledge of mothers on breastfeeding and the importance of breastfeeding. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional study. The data of the mothers admitted in the Hospital Geral of Caxias do Sul, RS, were collected through a structured questionnaire with objective questions about practical and theoretical aspects of breastfeeding, during February and March 2009. Results: We interviewed 54 mothers, aged between 16 and 45 years. Overall, 71.7% of mothers had at least five or more prenatal visits at basic health units of the municipality and 100% reported not having received guidance on breastfeeding during this period. However, with respect to the difficulty of breast 68.5% showed no such feature, and on the management to withdraw the milk 68.5% taken correctly, showing significance. When approached the offer of tea or water, 66.7% answered no and 33.3% answered yes, showing statistical difference.
