ABSTRACT
This is a historical review of the influenza virus, many epidemics and pandemics pathogen, their genetic mutations reaching the Influenza A H1N1. The H1N1 virus that affects pigs, causing respiratory disease in these animals is able to infect humans due to close contact. There are genes from pigs, poultry and humans, and therefore a variant now able to cause cross-infection to humans. It is responsible for the current pandemic started in Mexico in March 2009. Characterizes the situation when the pandemic occurs in the world and particularly in Brazil, indicating the basic guidelines for primary health care, recommendations for reference services and the measures that should be adopted for prevention and control
