Avaliação da estabilidade da mandíbula após osteotomia vertical intra-oral do ramo mandibular / Evaluation of the stability after the vertical intraoral osteotomy of the mandibular ramus

RESUMO

Foi avaliada a estabilidade do tratamento ortodôntico-cirúrgico para correção do prognatismo mandibular. O estudo envolveu 12 pacientes (9 mulheres e 3 homens) com maloclusão esquelética de Classe III, que foram submetidos á osteotomia vertical intra-oral do ramo mandibular para a correção desta deformidade. Não forma excluídos os pacientes submetidos a mentoplastia, sendo que esta intervenção cirúrgica foi associada a osteotomia do ramo em 4 pacientes. Para a avaliação da estabilidade foram utilizadas três teleradiografias, uma obtida antes da cirurgia, outra após a conclusão do tratamento ortodôntico-cirurgico e a terceira obtida pelo menos seis meses após a segunda teleradiografia. Foram utilizadas análises cefalométricas constituídas de quatro grandezas angulares e quatro lineares, sendo que duas destas grandezas lineares (DH E DV) foram idealizadas pelo autor para esta pesquisa. Os resultados sugerem que o tratamento ortodôntico-cirurgico no qual utiliza-se a osteotomia vertical intra-oral do ramo mandibular para a correção do prognatismo da mandíbula é estável tanto no sentido vertical quanto horizontal.

ABSTRACT

The stability of the surgical-orthodontic treatment of the correction of mandibular prognathism was assessed. The study involved 12 patients (9 women and 3 men) with Class III skeletal malocclusion, who were submitted to a vertical intraoral osteotomy of the mandibular ramus for the correction of this deformity. The patients submitted to mentoplasty were not excluded, since this surgical intervention was associated to the osteotomy of the ramification in 4 patients.For the assessment we managed with theree cephalometric radiographs one obtained before the surgery, the other one after completion of surgical-composed of four angular largeness and four linear largeness were performed, where two of those linear largeness (DH and DV) were designed by this author for this research.The results indicate that the surgical-orthodontic treatment in which vertical intraoral osteotomy of the mandibular ramification for the correction of the mandibular prognathism is used, is both stable in the vertical and horizontal direction.
