El síndrome de Burnout en el personal de una unidad quirúrgica / Burnout syndrome among the staff of one surgery unit

RESUMEN

El síndrome de Burnout es un estado particular de estrés que puede presentarse en aquellas personas que brindan servicios a otras, y se caracteriza por tres aspectos fundamentales el cansancio emocional, la despersonalización y la disminución de la realización personal. Se realiza esta investigación para determinar su presencia en una unidad quirúrgica por ser un área de riesgo en este sentido. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal en 22 profesionales (médicos y enfermeras) a los que se les aplicó el cuestionario de Maslach sobre el Burnout, que mide los tres aspectos del síndrome, los resultados se relacionaron con la edad, sexo, años de trabajo y estado civil. El sexo femenino predominó con 22 (70,3 por ciento), 80 por ciento tiene una experiencia profesional de más de 10 años, la incidencia fue mayor entre 35 y 44 años con 25 (83,3 por ciento), predominando el grupo de los casados con 22 (70,3 por ciento). La mayor tendencia a presentar el síndrome fue en mujer casada, con edad entre 35 y 44 años y antigüedad profesional mayor de 10 años. No se evidencia la presencia del síndrome de Burnout, pero sí una tendencia a desarrollarlo en un alto número de profesionales.

ABSTRACT

Burnout syndrome is a particular stress status that may occur in those persons giving services to others, and is characterized by three main aspects emotional tiredness, depersonalization, and diminishing of the personal realization. This investigation was carried out to determine its presence in a surgery unit for being it a risk area. We carried out a descriptive, transversal study in 22 professionals (physicians and nurses), who answered Maslach burnout survey, measuring the three aspects of the syndrome; the results were related with age, sex, years of work, and marital status. Female sex predominated with 22 (70.3 percent); 80 percnet of them had a professional experience of more than 10 years; the highest incidence was in the age group from 35 to 44 years old with 25 (83.3 percent), predominating the married group with 22 (70.3 percent). The highest tendency of suffering the syndrome was in married, 35-to-44-years-old women with more than 10 years of professional life. There is no evidence of the presence of Burnout syndrome, but a big quantity of professionals presents the tendency of developing it.
