ABSTRACT
Two therapeutic approaches were compared in reference to the strength response of the pelvic floor muscles (AFA), regarded to the ORTIZ Table. Sample of 86 women, aged 45-55 years, with urinary incontinence in climacteric, divided into two groups called Kinesiotherapy and Kinesiotherapy combined with imagery practice, respectively. Groups practiced exercises aimed at improving tension of the pelvic floor muscles, 6 months, 3 weekly sessions of 45 minutes each. Post-intervention data were compared to baseline one by Chi2 (inference) and McNamara (frequencies) statistic. Indices indicated the Kinesiotherapy treatment resulting in women frequencies migration from lower levels of incontinence to a higher level, withstatistical significance (p <0.05). Conversely, those treated by the same method of Kinesiotherapy, but associated with imagery obtained 100% of women migration to the two lowest levels of the Table, also with statistical significance (p <0.0001). The efficacy of combined treatment was discussed as related to mental imagery practice.
