ABSTRACT
The perinatal period has become a focal point for risk assessment and health promotion in women's healthcare. This paper discusses the role health professionals and managers can undertake to improve Black women's health in the perinatal period through the detection and management of institutional racism and sexism.

Este artigo (re) apresenta alguns dados associados com a mortalidade materna tendo como referencial a prática clínica (e de gestão do sistema de saúde) baseada em evidência para mais uma vez informar profissionais e gestores do SUS sobre o problema e, quem sabe, facilitar a tomada de decisão.
