Efeitos adversos no sistema nervoso central dos fármacos antiepiléticos em idosos / Adverse effects on the central nervous system by antiepileptic drugs in elderly

RESUMO

JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS: Os principais efeitos adversos de medicamentos abordados neste estudo abrangem desde cefaleia até atrofia cerebral, mostrando a importância e as peculiaridades do paciente geriátrico. Para esta faixa etária, não basta estudar o efeito do fármaco isoladamente, pois os pacientes idosos geralmente fazem uso de diversos medicamentos ao mesmo tempo, para diversas doenças. Além do mais possuem, pela própria idade, alterações fisiológicas as quais alteram a absorção e farmacocinética de alguns fármacos. Desta forma, é importante avaliar e medicar cada paciente de acordo com suas necessidades e alterações. O objetivo deste estudo foi levantar os principais efeitos adversos no sistema nervoso central (SNC) decorrentes do uso de antiepiléticos em idosos. CONTEÚDO: Foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica, utilizando-se os bancos de dados do MedLine, Drugs & Aging, LILACS, Bireme, Journal of Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy Research, por meio das palavras-chaves: efeitos adversos, fármacos antiepiléticos, idosos, sistema nervoso central. Foram procurados estudos originais e revisões sobre as abordagens dos efeitos adversos no SNC por anticonvulsivantes em idosos, que datam de 1997 até 2008. Também foram pesquisadas por via eletrônica as referências bibliográficas da SciElo para complementar o estudo, assim como pesquisa no livro de Farmacologia Terapêutica, dados que datam de 1997 até 2009. CONCLUSÃO: Foram observados significativos efeitos adversos no SNC por fármacos antiepiléticos utilizados em idosos, principalmente devido ao fato deles apresentarem diferenças orgânicas na absorção e na sua eliminação.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The main adverse effects raised in this review may go from a headache to brain atrophy, showing the importance and uniqueness of the geriatric patient. For this age group is not enough study the effect of the drugs separately because patients generally make use of various medications at the same time, for various diseases. Moreover own age have the physiological changes which alter the absorption and pharmacokinetics of the drug. So, is important to assess and medicate each patient according to their needs and changes. The objective of this study was intends to raise the main adverse effects on the central nervous system (CNS) due antiepileptic drugs in the elderly. CONTENTS: A literature review was did by the MedLine, Drugs & Aging, LILACS, Bireme, Journal of Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy Research, using the keywords: adverse effects, antiepileptic drugs, elderly, and central nervous system. Were searched for original studies and reviews about the approaches of CNS side effects of anticonvulsants in the elderly, dating from 1997 until 2008. Were also surveyed by the electronic search of bibliographic references SciElo to complement the literature review as well as research in the book of Pharmacology Therapeutics, data dating from 1997 to 2009. CONCLUSION: They raised significant adverse effects on the central nervous system by antiepileptic drugs used in the elderly, mainly due to the fact that organic elderly showed differences in absorption and your elimination.
