Background:
Anaeject® is a new anesthetic syringe. However, very few clinical studies have been carried out on it. The main characteristic of this syringe is that it administers the exact amount of anesthetic need bye means of an injection, without excessive pressure, which avoids pain. Objetive The aim of this study was to compare the anxiety in patients and the intensity of the pain perceived during injection, that arise from using the Anaeject® system and the conventional syringe system. Material andmethods:
The study group consisted of 20 patients of the International University of Catalonia (Barcelona, Spain), aged between 4 and 9 years, who needed a minimum of 2 treatments that required the same anesthetic technique. The Anaeject® system and the convectional syringe were applied in random order, and the children were divided into two groups depending on how the injection was going to be applied. Different scales wew used, and the patients heart rates were monitored at different points during the treatment. Results:
The results were analyzed using a statistical software system (Statgraphics Plus® Version 5.0), and the multifactorial ANOVA technique was used for analyzing the subjective data. The objective data were analyzed using StudentÆs T-test for paired samples. Statistically significant differences were not found (p less than 0.05) with regard to anxiety and pain perceived during the injection. Conclusions:
The use of the Anaeject® system does not reduce the pain perceived by the patient during the injection when compared to the conventional syringe system.
