Diagnóstico e intensidade da depressão / Diagnosis and intensity of depression

RESUMO

Este artigo desenvolve uma revisão da literatura sobre os critérios que integram o diagnóstico de depressão e a intensidade de seus sintomas. Discute-se que é relevante e importante realizar uma análise detalhada das respostas dos indivíduos em instrumentos que fornecem um escore quantitativo. Utilizaram-se para essa discussão, casos ilustrativos de respostas de adolescentes ao Inventário de Depressão de Beck–II (BDI–II), em função do alto valor que esse instrumento possui no meio clínico e de pesquisa. É possível concluir que diferentes níveis de intensidade de depressão podem ser melhor compreendidos a partir de um exame qualitativo de cada um dos itens da escala que representam a constelação da depressão. Quando bem estudados e observados, esses itens podem ser indicadores subclínicos importantes que podem levar ao entendimento de uma dificuldade mais grave que o sujeito possa estar apresentando.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to provide a literature review about the criteria that make up the depression diagnosis and the intensity of its symptoms. It is in discussion that doing a more detailed analysis of the subject’s answers in the instruments which give a quantitative score is important and very relevant. In the study, answers from adolescents to the Beck Depression Inventory-II were used to illustrate the discussion, because of the high value of this instrument in the clinical and in the research community. It is possible to conclude that different levels of depression intensity may have a better comprehension using a qualitative study of each of the scale items that represent the depression constellation. When well studied and observed these items may be important subclinical indicators that may bring a better understanding of some problem more severe that the subject may be dealing with.
