Fracturas craneofaciales en accidentes de motociclistas en Cali / Craniofacial fractures in accidents of motorcyclists in Cali

RESUMEN

El propósito de este estudio fue investigar el tipo de fracturas craneofaciales que se presentaron en los motociclistas accidentados en la ciudad de Cali, que fueron atendidos en los Hospitales Universitario del Valle, San Juan de Dios y Clínica Rafael Uribe Uribe. La investigación fue realizada durante el período noviembre de 2.001 a junio de 2.002 y se diseño un formato para la recolección de la información en los servicios de urgencia de los hospitales mencionados anteriormente. El estudio fue aprobado por el Comité de Etica en Humanos de la facultad de salud de la Universidad del Valle siendo catalogada como sin riesgo de acuerdo a la resolución 8430. El tamaño de la muestra fue de 108 sujetos, 88 hombres y 20 mujeres; el 31.5% corresponde al grupo de 18 a 24 años, el 30.5% de 25 a 31 años. 32.5% de las fracturas ocurrieron en el hueso malar, seguido por 15.5% con hematoma cerebral (fracturas lineales) y 13.5% de fracturas nasales. Otras variables como uso y tipo de casco, incapacidad, cilindraje del vehículo, mortalidad y alicoramiento serán analizadas en otra publicación.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate the type of facial fractures that presented the motorcyclists who crashed in Cali and that were assisted in the University Hospitals of the Valley, San Juan de Dios and Rafael Uribe Uribe. The investigation was carried out during the period November from 2.001 to June of 2.002 and we design a format for the gathering of the information in the emergency room of the hospitals mentioned previously. The study was approved by the Committee of Ethics in Human of the ability of health of the University of the Valley being classified as without risk according to the resolution 8430. People was 108, 88 men and 20 women; 31.5% corresponds to the group from 18 to 24 years, 30.5% of 25 to 31 years. 32.5% of the fractures happened in the malar bone, continued by 15.5% with cerebral hematoma and 13.5% of nasal fractures. Other variables as use and helmet type, inability, capacity of the vehicle, mortality and death were analyzed in another study.
