RESUMO
O Nucleo de Atividades para a Terceira Idade (NATI) caracteriza-se por trabalhar diretamente com aproximadamente 500 idosos da comunidade da cidade de Pelotas/RS. Trata-se de um trabalho de extensao e pesquisa, onde atraves das atividades fisicas e de lazer os idosos tem melhorado sua qualidade de vida. Ha 16 anos, o NATI desenvolve este trabalho para a populacao idosa atraves de aulas de diversas modalidades, entre elas: hidroginastica, ginastica, musculacao, danca e caminhada orientada. O projeto conta com a participacao de academicos dos cursos de Educacao Fisica sob orientacao de professores da instituicao. A partir de 2008, e estruturado o grupo de pesquisa GPES/UFPel focalizando aspectos fisiologicos e sociologicos do envelhecimento humano. Tendo em vista o trabalho desenvolvido, concluimos que a interacao entre pesquisa e extensao tem gerado a producao de conhecimentos indispensaveis tanto para a producao cientifica na area do envelhecimento como para as atividades praticas oferecidas a comunidade.
ABSTRACT
The Center of Activities or the Elderly (NATI) is characterized by working with approximately 500 community elderly people from Pelotas / RS. This is an extension and research activity, which using physical and leisure activities for the elderly to improve their quality of life. For 16 years, NATI has been developing this work for the elderly through many kinds of classes, including: aerobics, gymnastics, bodybuilding, dancing and guided walking. The project includes the participation of undergraduates in physical education who are supervised by teachers. Since 2008, the research group GPES / UFPel focuses studies on physiological and sociological aspects of human aging. Based on our work, we conclude that the interaction between research and extension has generated essential knowledge for both the scientific production in the of aging and for the improvement of activities off ered to the community.
