RESUMEN

Durante los últimos años, se han producido avances tecnológicos y biológicos muy importantes en la implantología. Se puede considerar que la prótesis dental es la zona de encuentro entre unos conceptos básicos de ingeniería y otros de biología. Esta puede ser fija o extraíble, sobre dientes, mucosas y, recientemente, sobre implantes. Mención aparte merecen los implantes dentales que han supuesto un auténtico punto y aparte en el mundo de la Estomatología. Los implantes correctamente colocados garantizan resultados estéticos muy superiores a la dentadura original del paciente. Este debe tener claro que no sólo conseguirá una boca sana, sino además una sonrisa estética. Esas deben ser sus exigencias. Por lo que podemos concluir expresando que la rehabilitación protésica sobre implante proporciona gran ventaja a los portadores de ésta al garantizar mayor nivel de estética, comodidad y función,y ayudando a mejorar, de esta forma, la calidad de vida.
