Conocimientos sobre infecciones de transmisión sexual en adolescentes de Barrio Adentro / Knowledges about sexually transmitted infections in adolescents of Barrio Adentro

RESUMEN

Las infecciones de transmisión sexual constituyen un peligro importante para la salud humana, éstas causan problemas de salud en todas las edades y la adolescencia representa el grupo más vulnerable. Objetivo: Determinar y modificar el nivel de conocimiento sobre infecciones de transmisión sexual en un grupo de adolescentes de Barrio Adentro en la República Bolivariana de Venezuela y sobre esta base crear un programa de instrucción y promoción para modificar sus actitudes ante la vida sexual. Método: Se realizó un estudio de investigación acción en un grupo de adolescentes del Barrio San José del Perú, en el municipio Heres del estado Bolívar, desde enero hasta julio de 2007. Se aplicó una encuesta antes y después de someterlos a un sistema de intervención donde se les brindó información sobre las infecciones de transmisión sexual más frecuentes. Resultados: Se incrementó significativamente la información sobre las infecciones de transmisión sexual y el médico la señaló como la principal vía de información. Se logró que un mayor número de adolescentes reconocieran las características de las infecciones de transmisión sexual más frecuentes así como sus formas de contagio y que identificaran en un mayor por ciento las medidas adecuadas para prevenirlas. Conclusiones: Se logró un incremento significativo en el nivel cognoscitivo de los adolescentes sobre estas infecciones, se demostró la eficacia de la labor realizada y la efectividad de la misión Barrio Adentro como accionar en la promoción de salud en los sectores más necesitados de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela.

ABSTRACT

Sexually transmitted infections constitute an important danger for human health, these cause health problems in all ages and the adolescence represents the most vulnerable group. Objective: To determine and to modify the level of knowledge about sexually transmitted infections in a group of adolescents of Barrio Adentro in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and on this base to create an instruction program and promotion to modify their attitudes in the face of sexual life. Method: An investigation action study in a group of adolescents of San José del Peru Neighborhood, in Heres municipality of the Bolívar state was performed, from January to July 2007. A survey was applied before and after subjecting them to an intervention system where they were offered information on the most frequent sexually transmitted infections. Results: It was significantly increased the information on the sexually transmitted infections, the doctor pointed out as the main via of information. It was achieved that a bigger number of adolescents recognized the characteristics of the most frequent sexually transmitted infections as well as its infection forms and they identified in a bigger percent the appropriate measures to prevent them. Conclusions: A significant increment was achieved in the cognitive level of the adolescents on these infections, it was demonstrated the effectiveness of the fulfilled labour and the effectiveness of Barrio Adentro mission as working in health promotion in the neediest sectors of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
