Intervención educativa para elevar el nivel de conocimientos a madres de niños vacunados hasta los 18 meses / Educatinal intervention to elevate the level of knowlidge to mothers of vaccinate chidren

RESUMEN

El intento de la vacunación ha acompañado históricamente al hombre, quien ha tratado de encontrar protección real contra las enfermedades infecciosas que diezmaban pueblos enteros. Objetivo: Aplicar una intervención educativa para elevar el nivel de conocimientos a madres de niños vacunados hasta 18 meses de edad. Método: Se realizó un estudio experimental de intervención en el Policlínico José Martí, para elevar el nivel de conocimientos de las madres acerca de las vacunas que se ponen a sus hijos hasta los 18 meses de edad. El universo estuvo constituido por 479 madres de todos los nacidos desde 1ro de julio del 2006 al 31 de diciembre del 2007 que fueron 480, ya que hubo un parto gemelar; la muestra quedó conformada por 135 madres, seleccionadas a través de un muestreo aleatorio simple a las que se les aplicó un cuestionario. Resultados: Se evidenció que antes de recibir las labores educativas eran escasos los conocimientos que poseían las madres acerca de la importancia de la inmunización para sus hijos, cuáles vacunas se le ponen hasta los 18 meses, el concepto de la misma así como las enfermedades eliminadas en nuestro país y las protegidas por las vacunas. Así como sus contraindicaciones y las reacciones adversas que pueden producirse en el momento de la inmunización. Conclusiones: Al inicio de la investigación las madres tenían poco conocimiento sobre las vacunas que se le ponen a sus hijos, luego de la intervención se logró un aumento significativo del mismo, por lo que se consideró efectiva la intervención.

ABSTRACT

The intent of vaccination historically has accompanied man who has been about finding real protection against the infectious diseases that decimated whole towns. Objective: To apply an educational intervention to elevate the level of knowledge to children's mothers vaccinated up to 18 months of age. Method: An intervention experimental study at José Martí Polyclinic was conducted, to elevate the level of mothers' knowledge about the vaccines that start to their children until the 18 months of age. The universe was constituted by 479 mothers (of all the newborns from July 1st 2006 to December 31st 2007 that were 480, there was a gemellary delivery); the sample was conformed by 135 mothers, selected through a simple random sampling to those were applied a questionnaire. Results: It was showed up that before receiving the educational tasks were scarce the knowledge that mothers possessed about the importance of the immunization for their children which vaccinates are put until the 18 months, its concept as well as the diseases eliminated in our country and those protected by the vaccines. As well as their contraindications and the adverse reactions that can take place in the moment of the immunization. Conclusions: At the beginning of the investigation mothers had little knowledge on the vaccines that are put to their children, after the intervention a significant increase was achieved, that is why the intervention was considered effective.
