Rehabilitación visual en niños ambliopes / Visual rehabilitation of amblyopic children

RESUMEN

OBJETIVO: Demostrar la efectividad del tratamiento de rehabilitación visual en niños ambliopes. MÉTODOS: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo en 60 niños ambliopes pertenecientes a la escuela de Rehabilitación Visual "Ramón Téllez Peña" de la Provincia Las Tunas, durante el curso escolar 2005-2006. RESULTADOS: El tratamiento de rehabilitación fue efectivo en el 81,7 por ciento influyendo en el resultado las edades más tempranas, los ambliopes con fijación foveal, y la ambliopía de causa refractiva. CONCLUSIONES: El tratamiento de rehabilitación favoreció la mejoría de la agudeza visual en la mayoría de los pacientes.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To show the effectiveness of visual rehabilitation therapy of amblyopic children. METHODS: A retrospective descriptive study of 60 children with amblyopia, who came from "Ramón Téllez Peña" visual rehabilitation school in Las Tunas province, was conducted in the 2005-2006 academic year. RESULTS: The rehabilitation treatment was effective in 81,7 percent of cases; early ages, amblyopia with foveal fixation and amblyopia of refractive origin had an effect on the results. CONCLUSIONS: Rehabilitation treatment favoured improvement in visual acuity in most of patients.
