RESUMO

O autor apresenta uma revisão da literatura sobre o uso da terapia com óxido nítrico inalatório em neonatologia, descrevendo sua atuação na fisiopatologia pulmonar do recém-nascido, suas indicações terapêuticas, possibilidade de uso no recém-nascido de muito baixo peso, assim como a dose e o momento ideal para introdução e retirada da terapia, e, finalmente, sua interação com outras terapias e efeitos colaterais.

ABSTRACT

The use of nitric oxide through inhalation in neonatology is reviewed. Its effect on the pulmonary physiopathology of the newborn, the therapeutic indication, the possibility of its use in newborn with low weight, the adequate doses and the exact momemt for the introduction and the end of the therapy are described as well as the its interaction with other therapies and the collateral effects.
