ABSTRACT
The first kidney (and organ) transplant in Minas Gerais was performed in Dec. 1969 at Hospital das Clínicas, UFMG, Belo Horizonte, by a multidisciplinary medical team. The patients were a man, 32 y.o., recipient, and the donor, bis sister, 40 y.o. The imunossupression was, and still is, azathioprine and prednisone based. The recipient's clinical course, in these 33 years, has been excellent, making him one of the oldest survivors of an organ transplant in the world. His donor, however, died in 1993 from non-renal cause.
