Sharpe V. y Faden A. han propuesto el término "comiogénico" para referirse a todos los proveedores de salud y agentes que potencialmente pueden causar daño a los pacientes que reciben atención en el sistema sanitario. Consideran que el término "iatrogénico" es restrictivo e inadecuado porque el médico no es el único responsable de la debida atención al paciente.

Sharpe V. and Faden A, have suggested the term "comiogenic" to refer to all health providers and agents as a source of patient harm in the health system. They consider the usual term "iatrogenic" as restrictive and inadequate because physicians are clearly not the only providers under the obligation of patient care.
