ABSTRACT

Introduction:

Breast reconstruction can reduce psychological distress without interferingwith adjuvant treatment. The possibility of combining breast cancer treatment withcontralateral symmetrization during the same procedure should help patients undergoingbreast cancer treatment.

Objectives:

To show that the preparation of local flaps and symmetrizationof the contralateral breast, performed at the same time as cancer resection, can beof benefit in partial breast reconstruction. To determine the patient satisfaction score and itsrelationship to the preoperative breast ptosis grade.

Methods:

Twenty patients undergoingbreast reconstruction after sectorectomy and immediate reconstruction with a local flap andsimultaneous contralateral breast symmetrization were included in a retrospective cohortstudy based on a prospective database. Statistical

analysis:

the distribution of tumor locationas a percentage and the patient satisfaction score on a scale of 0 to 10 and its correlationwith the degree of breast ptosis.

Conclusion:

For breast-conserving surgery, the use of localflaps plus contralateral mammaplasty performed at the time of surgical resection may behelpful. The satisfaction scores with the procedure were acceptable, with low complicationrates in selected subjects. This combined technique seems to be of greatest benefit whenthe degree of breast ptosis is marked.
