Visões de morte, ansiedade e sentido da vida: um estudo correlacional / Visions of death, anxiety and meaning of live: a correlational study

O presente estudo objetivou identificar as relações entre visões de morte com o nível de ansiedade perante a morte, bem como de vazio existencial. Participaram da pesquisa 400 estudantes universitários dos cursos de Psicologia (N = 115), Enfermagem (N = 129) e Medicina (N = 156), com idade entre18 e 49 anos (M = 22,1; DP = 3,77), a maioria do sexo feminino (67%) e de religião católica (64%). Para a coleta de dados, foram utilizados como instrumentos o Pil-Test (Teste Propósito de Vida), o Questionário sobre Diversas Perspectivas de Morte, a Escala Templer de Ansiedade Perante a Morte e um questionário sócio-demográfico. Os resultados apontaram para a existência de correlações positivas entre o fator vazio existencial e as concepções negativas da morte, como fracasso, dor e solidão e abandono. Por outro lado, o vazio existencial se correlacionou negativamente com a visão de morte fim natural. Os níveis de ansiedade perante a morte correlacionaram-se diretamente com as visões de morte desconhecida, fracasso, dor e solidão, e de forma negativa com a visão de indiferença. Os resultados foram analisados com base na análise existencial de Viktor Frankl.

ABSTRACT

This study intends to identify the relationship between visions of death and the level of anxiety towards it, as well as the level of existential emptiness. Research was made with 400 college students majoring in Psychology (N =115), Nursing (N = 129) and Medicine (N = 156), whose ages range from 18 to 49 years old (M = 22.1; SD = 3.77),mostly female individuals (67%), and mostly followers of the Catholic faith (64%). The data was collected through the Pil-Test (Test of Purpose in Life), the Death Perspective Scales, and the Templer’s Death Anxiety Scale, as well as a social-demographic questionnaire. The result has shown that there is a close correlation between existential emptiness and negative death conceptions such as fail, pain and loneliness, and abandonment. On the other hand, the existential emptiness are negatively correlated to the vision of death as a natural end of life. The study showed that the levels of anxiety towards death are directly correlated to visions such as the unknown death, failing, pain and loneliness. Other wise, it showed that there is a negative correlation with the vision of indifference. All the results were analyzed through Viktor Frankl’s existential analysis.
