Glaucoma inducido por esteroides / Glaucona induced by steroids

RESUMEN

Propósito: Reportar el caso de tres pacientes que recibieron esteroides tópicos para el manejo de ojo rojo y desarrollaron glaucoma inducido por estos. Caso: Paciente de 51 años con diagnóstico de pterigio, paciente de 29 años y paciente de 11 años, ambos con diagnóstico de conjuntivitis alérgica. Resultado: Los 3 pacientes desarrollan glaucoma secundario al tratamiento esteroideo. Conclusiones: El tratamiento indiscriminado, no supervisado, con esteroides tópicos, lleva con frecuencia a complicaciones como el glaucoma, que en última instancia, deterioran la función visual y la calidad de vida de los pacientes; por esto, el médico general debe evitar realizar estos tratamientos, remitiendo al oftalmólogo, los pacientes que según su criterio, lo requieran.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: We report the case of three patients who where treated with topical steroid eye drops for the management of red eye and because of this, they developed steroid-induced glaucoma. Case 1: A fifty one year old men with left eye pterigium; a twenty nine year old woman and eleven year old boy, both presenting allergic conjunctivitis. Results: AII patients developed glaucoma induced by use ofsteroids. Conclusions: An indiscriminate, not supervised treatrnent with topical steroids brings about some complications like glaucoma, which finally, deteriorate visual function and quality life's patients. In order to this, the general practitioner should avoid performing this kind of treatment and hemust send these patients to the Ophthalmologist.
