ABSTRACT
The rehabilitation of patients that have maxillary atrophy were limited to mucoussupported prostheses or reconstructive surgeries looking for further dental implant therapy, particularly on patients with systemic disorders. Zygomatic implants have 20 years of evolution, being firstly developed to treat maxillectomized patients. Nowadays, this therapy is also used on edentulous patients at posterior regions lacking alveolar bone. The aim of this study was to perform a literature review about history, anatomy, and technical developments regarding zygomatic implants.
