Objetivo:
Avaliar a relação entre prevalência de cárie e condição socioeconômica em escolares de uma escola pública de Campinas.Métodos:
Foi realizado levantamento epidemiológico da cárie dentária em 126 escolares com idade média de 12,4 anos (+/- 1,3), da 5ª a 8ª série, de ambos os gêneros, matriculados na Escola Estadual Professor Djalma Octaviano/SP. Os critérios de inclusão foram autorização do responsável; ausência de hipoplasia severa, ausência de doenças sistêmicas e ausência de aparelho ortodôntico. As crianças foram examinadas por examinadores calibrados (KAPPA>0,90) seguindo a metodologia da OMS (1999). O questionário de avaliação socioeconômica foi enviado aos responsáveis atingindo taxa de resposta igual 35,7% (n=45). Os dados foram submetidos à análise exploratória univariada ao nivel de significância de 5%. Para análise da associação entre as variáveis, o CPOD foi dicotomizado em CPO=O e CPO>l.Resultados:
O CPOD médio foi de 0,96 (+/- 1,3). O grupo em que o questionário foi ou não preenchido, a prevalência de história de cárie foi de O,8 (+/- 1,3) e 1,2 (+/- 1 ,5), sem diferença estatística significativa entre os grupos (Teste t de student, p>0,05). A distribuição do perfil socioeconômico da amostra mostrou que 29% eram do nível A e B, 27% do C e 44% dos níveis D, E e F. Não houve associação entre a história de cárie e a condição socioeconômica (teste Qui-quadrado, p=0,2928).Conclusão:
Com base nos resultados encontrados, conclui-se que não houve associação entre a prevalência de cárie e a condição socioeconômica na população estudada.ABSTRACT
Objective:
To assess the relationship between caries prevalence and the socioeconomic status of schoolchildren in a public school in Campinas.Methods:
Epidemiological survey of dental caries with 126 students with a mean age of 12.4 years (+/- 1.3), from the 5th to the Sth grade, both genders, enrolled at the State School Professor Djalma Octaviano/SP. Inclusion Criteria authorization from the parent or guardian; absence of severe hypoplasia, systemic diseases and orthodontic appliances. The children were examined by calibrated examiners (kappa> 0.90) in accordance with the methodology of the WHO (1999). The socioeconomic assessment questionnaire was sent to the parents or guardians and the rate of equal response was 35.7% (n = 45). Data was submitted to the univariate exploratory analysis at a levei of significance of 5%. To analyze the association among the variables, the DMFT was dichotomized into CPO=O and CPO>l.Results:
The mean DMFT was 0.96 (+/- 1.3). The group in which the questionnaire was completed or not, the prevalence of the history of caries was O.8 (+/- 1.3) and 1.2 (+/- 1.5), with no statistically significant difference among the grou ps (Student's-t test, p> 0.05). The distribution of the socioeconomic profile of the sample showed that 29% were levei A and B, 27% C and 44% levels D, E and F. There was no association between the history of dental caries and the so¬cioeconomic status (Chi-square test, p = 0.2928).Conclusion:
There was no association between the prevalence of caries and socioeconomic conditions in the population.
