ABSTRACT
This article focuses on social imaginary meanings and organizations. It presents a brief review of some Brazilian theoretical management production (Freitas, Motta, Ramos, Davel and Vasconcelos) concerning the relationship between organizational culture, especially managers, and Brazilian cultural traits, figures, characters or types such as the brother-in-law, the colonel, the cordial person, the trickster, the skillful and the dispatcher. Those theoretical productions and the thinking of Anthropologists, Historians and Sociologists (Ribeiro,Holanda, DaMatta, Carvalho) that dealt with those characters are opposed to thoughts concerning the social imaginary (Castoriadis) and to the psychosocial approach that considers the organization as a system simultaneously cultural, symbolic and imaginary (Enriquez). It is searched to understand the role played by those typically Brazilian images in concrete and real organizations and, especially, in the maintenance of an authoritarian managers model, based on the large patriarchal family that agglomerates brothers-in-law, god-fathers,godchildren, very distant from a model that favors autonomous social relationships.
