ABSTRACT
Thrity two hig-risk patients were studied in this research. Fetal Hearth Rate (FHR) accelerations associated with fetal activity were evaluated in comparison with 43 oxytocin challenge test (OCT) results performed on 26 high-risk patients. The other six patients in the study were evaluated only with FHR accelerations because they did not accept the OCT. The lack of FHR acceleration associated with fetal activity was noted in positive OCT results and in fetuses that were born depressed. One case with a positive OCT result and a reactive pattern of FHR accelertartion was found in a patient who delivered vaginally a vigorous newborn. All negative OCT results showed a reactive pattern with accelerations of FHR to fetal movements. In the cases where the OCT results inconclusive pr suspicious, the FHR acceleration test resulted in a definite postitive por negative finding. The FHR acceleration test wes less complex to administer, was less invasive for both mother and fetus, and showed a better predictive value of fetal well-being than the OCT
