Aplicación de consideraciones bioéticas en investigación científica en estomatología en pre y posgrado de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia / Bioethical considerations in scientific research carried out by undergraduate and graduate students from the School of Dentistry, Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University

RESUMEN

El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la aplicación de consideraciones éticas en investigación científica en estomatología en pre y posgrado de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) en los últimos 10 años. Se utilizaron las 505 tesis de pre y posgrado realizadas entre 1999 y 2008. Se elaboró una ficha de recolección de datos especialmente para el estudio. Los resultados indicaron que las consideraciones éticas en investigación científica en estomatología en los cinco primeros años (1999-2003) fue 39,8%, mientras que en los cinco últimos años (2004-2008) fue 62,2%, encontrando asociación estadísticamente significativa entre las variables (p<0,01). Se observó una mayor aplicación de consideraciones éticas en las tesis de Cirugía Bucal y Máxilo Facial seguidas por Ortodoncia y Ortopedia Maxilar; así mismo en las tesis de maestrías seguidas por las de doctorado. El consentimiento informado se encontró en 26,9% de las tesis y un poco menos de la mitad de ellas no lo requería. En conclusión se encontró una mayor aplicación de consideraciones éticas en los últimos cinco años, lo cual refleja la importancia que viene adquiriendo esta disciplina y las normas para investigar en estomatología.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the study was to evaluate the application of ethical considerations in scientific research in stomatology in undergraduate and graduate of the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) in the last 10 years. We used the whole universe, which consisted of 505 undergraduate and graduate theses made between 1999-2008. A card of compilation of information was elaborated specially for the study. The results indicated that ethical considerations in scientific research in stomatology in the first five years (1999-2003) was 39.8%, whereas in the past five years (2004-2008) was 62.2% A statistically significant association was found between the variables (p<0.01). We observed and increased application of ethical considerations in the theses of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery followed by Orthodontics and Orthopedics; also masterÆs theses, were followed by doctorate theses. The informed consent was found in 26.9% of the theses and a little less than half of them did not require a consent. In conclusion we found a major application of ethical considerations in the past five years, which reflects the importance that is acquiring the discipline and its procedure in research in stomatology.
