Preferencia de los pacientes niños y sus padres con respecto a la vestimenta del odontopediatra / Preference for the dentist attire by children and their parents

RESUMEN

Objetivo: El presente estudio tuvo como finalidad determinar la preferencia de los pacientes niños entre 3 y 14 años y sus padres con respecto a la vestimenta del odontopediatra, que acuden a la Clínica Estomatológica Central de laFacultad de Estomatología ôRoberto Beltránõ de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia en el periodo de Julio a Octubre del 2009. Materiales y Métodos: Se tomó un grupo de 100niños entre 3 y 14 años y sus padres entre la población que acuden al Servicio de Odontopediatría. Los niños encuestados fueron agrupados en diferentes grupos de edad 3-6 (n=43), 7-10 (n=37) y 11-14 (n=20) años de edad, la población era mixta, con o sin experiencia dental previa. Se empleó una escala Análoga Visual donde semostraron tres caras faciales diferentes. Si la respuesta es que ôles gustaõ marcarían una cara feliz, si ôles gusta más o menosõ marcarían una cara neutral y si ôno les gustaõ marcarían unacara triste, cabe resaltar que inicialmente se realizó un proyecto piloto el cual sirvió para determinarestas tres categorías mencionadas.La secuencia de fotos fue presentada al azar a cada niño y su padre o madre por separado en un ambiente acondicionado (sala de espera) donde no haya interrupciones, de manera que el acto de selección fuera individual, evitandocomentarios colectivos. Antes de mostrarles las fotografías de los dos odontólogos (hombre-mujer)con los 4 estilos de vestir (vestimenta blanca, vestimenta semiformal, vestimenta informal y con diseño para niños) se les preguntó a los niños¿Te gustaría que te atendiera este doctor(a)? y a los padres ¿Le gustaría que su hijo(a )sea atendido por este doctor(a)?Resultados: Al evaluar la preferencia de los niños respecto a la vestimenta del odontopediatra se observó que las vestimentas más preferidas eran la que tenía diseño para niños (44%) y lavestimenta blanca (37.5%) y las que menos les gustaban eran la vestimenta informal (56%) y la vestimenta semiformal (42%).

ABSTRACT

Objective: to determine the preference of 3-14 year old children and their parentsfor the attire of the dentist..Materials and Methods: A group of 100 children between 3 and 14 and their parents were randomly selected among the populationof patients from the Pediatric Dental Service at UPCH.The children were grouped into different agegroups 3-6 (n = 43), 7-10 (n = 37) and 11-14 (n= 20) years of age. The population was mixed, with or without dental experiences. We used a visual analogue scale to determine the preference for the attire. The sequence of photos was presented in a random manner to each child and parent separately in a quiet environment(waiting room. Before showing the pictures of the two dentists (men and women) with the 4 styles of dress (white dress, semiformal attire,casual dress and design for children) we asked the children do of they want to be treated by this doctor,a dn we asked parents if they want their childrento be treated by the doctor. Results: The most preferred attire by children was casual (44%) and ) and white clothing (37.5%) and least preferred was the casual dress ( 56%) and semi-formal attire (42%). In the case of the parents, we found that they like the whitedress (64%) and clothing designed for children (45%) and the least preferred were casual dress (89.5%) and semi-formal attire (57%). Conclusions: The attire preferred by children si clothing with children pictures, and the leastliked casual dress. Boys and girls prefer a male dentist using a white dress and do not like the dress children;sdesigns. Boys and girls prefer a woman dentist wearing clothing with childrenÆs.In the group of children between 11-14 years of age there is a greater preference for white, semiformal dress. Parents of child patients attending the Pediatric Dental Clinic like the white dress and do not like the casual dress.
