RESUMEN
Objetivo:
determinar el nivel de conocimientos sobre autocuidado en la prevención de complicaciones diabéticas, en usuarios del Policlínico Chincha û EsSalud. Material ymétodo:
estudio descriptivo de corte transversal, incluyó a 243 usuarios que pertenecían al programa de diabetes mellitus. Se realizó en el mes de junio de 2009. La técnica usada fue una encuesta y como instrumento un cuestionario estructurado de 24 preguntas, previa firma del consentimiento informado. Para determinar la validez y confiabilidad del instrumento se realizó una prueba piloto utilizando la prueba de correlación biserial puntual y Kuder Richardson respectivamente, luego de que el Comité de Ética aprobó el proyecto de investigación.Resultados:
se encontró que del total de pacientes que asistían al programa de diabetes, el 54,7% presentó conocimiento medio, el 30,0 % conocimiento bajo y 15,3 % conocimiento alto; con respecto al autocuidado en la prevención de complicaciones diabéticas.Conclusiones:
se evidenció que los pacientes del programa de diabetes presentaron un nivel de conocimiento medio sobre el autocuidado en la prevención de complicaciones diabéticas.ABSTRACT

Determining the level of knowledge about self-care in the prevention of diabetic complications in polyclinic Chincha - EsSalud users. Material andmethods:
Type of study was descriptive, cross-sectional; included 243 users who belong to the programme of diabetes mellitus. He was conducted in June 2009. The technique used for the study was a survey and as an instrument, a structured questionnaire 24 questions, prior informed consent signature. Then that the Ethics Committee adopted the draft research, using the test of correlation timely biserial and Kuder Richardson was a pilot test to determine the validity and reliability of the instrument.Results:
Found that all patients attending the programme of diabetes, the 54.7 % presented medium knowledge, the 30.0 % low knowledge and a 15.3 % has a high; knowledge regarding the self-management in the prevention of diabetic complications.Conclusions:
Is evidenced that patients of diabetes program presented a level of average on self-management knowledge in the prevention of diabetic complications.
