Estudo retrospectivo do resultado estético obtido pelo uso de enxerto de tecido conjuntivo / Retrospective study of the aesthetic outcome of the use of connective tissue grafts

RESUMO

O objetivo do presente estudo retrospectivo foi avaliar o resultado estético do enxerto de tecido conjuntivo (ETC) usado para aumentar a quantidade de mucosa queratinizada. Treze pacientes foram incluídos no estudo, os quais apresentavam 1 ano de cicatrização de ETC realizado por motivos ortodônticos, protéticos ou periodontais. Todos os enxertos foram obtidos do tecido conjuntivo do palato e fixados na mandíbula. Todas as cirurgias foram feitas pelo mesmo operador. Em cada paciente, a área enxertada e a mucosa queratinizada do dente adjacente foram fotografadas. Três examinadores foram requisitados a avaliar as fotografias e responder a um questionário contendo as seguintes perguntas para cada foto apresentada (1) o resultado estético é excelente, aceitável ou ruim? (2) o novo tecido gengival tem uma cor diferente dos tecidos gengivais adjacentes? O resultado do questionário respondido mostrou que, em 10 das 13 áreas que receberam o ETC, o novo tecido gengival formado apresentou uma variação de coloração evidente dos tecidos gengivais adjacentes. Além disso, este estudo também indica que o resultado estético obtido pelo procedimento ETC é, freqüentemente, excelente/aceitável. O presente estudo sugere que o enxerto de tecido conjuntivo leva à formação de uma mucosa queratinizada que difere em coloração dos tecidos adjacentes queratinizados, mas não interfere na estética do paciente.

ABSTRACT

The objective of the present retrospective study was to evaluate the aesthetic outcome of the free connective tissue graft (CTG) used to increase the keratinized gingiva. Thirteen subjects who have received CTG for orthodontic, prosthetic or periodontal reasons were examined after 1 year of healing. All graft were obtained from the connective tissue palatal region and fixed to the mandible. All surgeries were performed by the same operator. In each patient, the grafted area was photographed. Three calibrated researchers were requested to examine the photographs and answer a questionnaire with the following questions for each photograph presented (1) The aesthetic result is excellent, acceptable or poor? (2) Does the new gingiva have a different color of the adjacent gingiva? The results had shown that in 10 of the 13 areas that had received the CTG, the newly formed gingiva presented a variation of coloration from the adjacent gingiva. Moreover, this study also indicates that the aesthetic result achieved by CTG is frequently excellent/fair. The present study suggests that CTG promotes the formation of a keratinized gingiva that differs in coloration from adjacent keratinized gingiva, but does not interfere with the patient' s aesthetic.
